Psion Plc gründet neue Abteilung: Psion InfoMedia Ltd.

Psion Info Media wird sich auf die Gelegeneiten konzentrieren, die sich aus dem Zusammenwachsen der digitalen Techniken, wie etwa Audio, Video, Telephon, GSM und Internet ergeben. Psion InfoMedia plant Entwurf und Vermarktung neuartiger interaktiver Anwendungen für Information und Unterhaltung zu Hause und Unterwegs. Die Produkte werden auf der Basis unterschiedlicher Techniken entwickelt, fußen aber auf Symbian's EPOC.
Das erste Produkt von Psion InfoMedia ist im Bereich des Digital Audio Broadcastin angesiedelt, und wird auf der CeBIT 2000 präsentiert.
Der Direktor von Psion InfoMedia ist Ken McAlpine, der früher für die Produktentwicklung von Psion Computern verantwortlich war. Ken McAlpine wird direkt an Gareth Hughes, den Direktor von Psion PLC berichten.
David Levin, CEO von Psion sagte: "Psion InfoMedia is a significant step forward for the Group. We want to be at the forefront of these rapidly evolving and very exciting markets for new Internet and communication-enabled information and entertainment devices.
Psion InfoMedia will focus on Psion's strengths in product development, design and market understanding - and will contract out other activities such as production. Psion InfoMedia will add to the Group's assets in terms of Intellectual Property Rights and allow us to maintain and extend our competitive advantage in the mobile Internet market."
